This lesson represents a general introduction to the Kamares ware production during the Protopalatial period in Crete. This ceramic class is presented initially by an archaeological point of view: shapes and decorative motifs are outlined during their development stages.
However, in the last few years, the growth of scientific studies, applied to the study of the archaeological heritage, has achieved specific results on the nature and composition of the ancient pigment. The data collected by these two methodological approaches (archaeological and archaeometric studies) are presented here to obtain a framework of comprehensive information about this minoan ceramic production of high value and aesthetic quality.
